Spokane Sports announces High School Indoor Track & Field Invitational – Strategic partnership with Idaho Central Credit Union
Spokane, Washington (September 16, 2021) Spokane Sports is proud to announce a new indoor track & field meet scheduled for Sunday, January 16, 2022. The Spokane High School Invitational, presented by Idaho Central Credit Union, will provide the first opportunity for high school track & field athletes to compete at Spokane’s newest sports facility, The Podium. The facility features the only hydraulically banked indoor 200-meter running track in the Western United States, and is set to open Fall 2021.

Indoor track & field is not an officially recognized sport by the WIAA, the state high school sports federation–but there is an overwhelming interest in the sport. This meet is anticipated to draw hundreds of club and unattached high school aged athletes, grades 9-12 from across the Pacific Northwest.

“Running is in the fabric our city. With the recent growth of running across the region, it was the logical choice to create an opportunity for high school aged athletes to compete at The Podium. Event winners will have the chance to be the first to set a high school facility record at The Podium-an exciting mark on the indoor track & field scene.” said Eric Sawyer, Spokane Sports CEO. Regarding the partnership with Idaho Central Credit Union Sawyer said “We’re thrilled to collaborate. The mission and community engagement of Idaho Central Credit Union aligns with what we are trying to accomplish–making Spokane better through sports.”
In addition to competing in a world-class facility, the event will serve as a collegiate recruiting opportunity for athletes. The Spokane High School Invitational will close out a full weekend of indoor track & field competition at The Podium. The Cougar Classic co-hosted by Washington State University and Spokane Sports will be hosted on Friday and Saturday, while high schoolers will make their debut at the facility on Sunday.
