Building a better community

The Spokane Sports Commission continues to actively recruit, retain and facilitate sports events for the Inland Northwest. These efforts help our region realize the economic, social and community-development benefits of sports. To secure premium events in the future, we rely on quality facilities that support a winning environment for sports events and community activities. The following is a listing of sports facility projects the Spokane Sports Commission is currently supporting.  We are constantly evaluating and supporting projects that match our mission of economic development through sports.

Spokane Sportsplex

A new multi-purpose sports complex will allow our community to secure new events for our region as well as help alleviate ongoing demand for additional sports venues in our community. The proposed project is an 180,000sqft indoor multi-sport venue being developed by the Spokane Public Facilities District in partnership with Spokane Sports Commission. Feasibility study completed by Sports Facilities Advisory Group.  The Public Facilities District is currently working with County, City of Spokane, and Spokane Sports Commission to develop a funding strategy to include possible local ballot measure and State funding in 2017. Learn about the Sportsplex project.

Spokane BMX Track (Dwight Merkel Sports Center)

$100,000 redesign into a “competitive” BMX track able to host national and regional events.  Phase I & II (start gate & corner paving) funded and scheduled for completion in the Fall of 2016. Phase III (start ramp rebuild) being designed.

Spokane County/Valley Study

Study funded by the City of Spokane Valley, County, CV School District, Liberty Lake and Spokane Sports Commission to examine the economic and community development feasibility of major renovations to Plantes Ferry Sports Complex and development of a multi “fields” project in the Valley.  The study by CSL International is scheduled for completion early September 2016.

The HUB Sports Center Capital Campaign
