We love sports. The adrenaline. The energy. The common vision to be one’s best. And this love shows in everything we do. But what drives us to blaze new trails in sports marketing; turn everyday events into exceptional experiences; to distinguish the region as a leader in sports event development and tourism, is our foundational commitment to our community. We know that when we succeed, so do local youth programs, regional commerce, and area families. Thanks to public and private funding, including many visionary sponsors, we can do what we do best for our community while providing premium services for our clients.
Founded in 1989, the Spokane Sports Commission is a non-profit, economic development organization responsible for recruiting, retaining, and facilitating sports events for the Spokane region. As advocates for sports development, our efforts help our region realize the economic, social and community-development benefits of sports. Meet the team.
The immediate economic boost sports events bring mean a big win for everyone in the Spokane region, but it's just a small glimpse into the power of sports tourism. Research has shown, sports tourism has a larger effect on a community. When young athletes, who comprise the workforce of tomorrow, leave with a positive impression of a community, they use that experience as a deciding factor on where to live, go to college, or start a career. By building a strong sports culture, Spokane is developing a base for long-term economic prosperity and growth.
Note: In 2014, the economic impact formula was adjusted to accommodate new spending patterns. 2012–2013 based off $110/$150 per day spending. 2014–2016: $150/$210 per day spending. Youth events are calculated at a lower daily spending rate than adult athlete events.
Sports don't just entertain. They improve communities. They drive economies. And no other organization brings sports events to the Inland Northwest like the Spokane Sports Commission. We are a nonprofit coalition of regional government; business and volunteers committed to recruiting and developing sports events. With these events come tourism dollars, entertainment and media attention attracting sports fans from around the world. Business wins. Kids win. Fans win, our region wins.
